George and Abel Time

I have to say getting 2 dogs was the best decision we could have ever made! They preoccupy each other all the time and have someone to snuggle with. I’m sure there are some days George would disagree with me when Abel won’t leave him alone. George loves to wake Abel up by grabbing the top of his head and dragging him across the floor. I’m super sad because it’s one week until we neuter George. 😦 I know it’s the right thing to do, but I just hate the idea of him going under. He’s my baby you know!

Aunt Karen came just a few weeks ago to meet Abel, see George, and check out our new house. She is quite the animal lover and I learned something new about her that she used to show dogs when she was younger.

Look how freaking cute Abel is after a haircut! He is not a rag-a-muffin anymore! It is so hard to keep him clean and brushed looking! I should have known I can never keep white clean.

Maltese baby Abel growing up

My! My! Abel is growing so fast I remember when he could walk right under my 4 lb. morkie’s legs now they are almost shoulder to shoulder. He is quite the loud mouth and and silly personality (look at how he sleeps). I would reccomend anybody to get one of these babies, because he is soooo smart!

Abel sure sleeps in the funniest positions.

Adorable puppy alert!

We finally got to see Abel at the breeders. He is 5 1/2 weeks here, can I just tell you that my heart melts everytime I look at these. Abel has the sweetest personality, the breeder, Cathy, says that he is the one that gets picked on. 😦 He just warmed right up to us. We get him in 2 days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ahhhhh!!!!!! Enjoy.

I halved this recipe, well because I realized that my container of oats did not contain 6 cups. Worked just the same. I found the recipe on the Pioneer woman’s blog and I thought I would give it a try to see if I could live up to the food network queen’s abilities. This is her recipe with the wheat germ omitted.

Ingredients
β– 6 cups Rolled Oats (not Quick Oats)
β– 4 Tablespoons Butter, Melted, Plus More For Greasing
β– 1/4 cup Vegetable Or Canola Oil
β– 1 teaspoon Salt
β– 1 cup Brown Sugar
β– 1/2 cup Honey
β– 1/4 cup Apple Juice
β– 1/4 cup Molasses
β– 3 teaspoons Vanilla Extract
β– 1-1/2 cup Rice Krispies
β– 1/2 cup Finely Chopped Pecans
β– 1/4 cup Roughly Chopped Almonds
β– 8 ounces, weight Milk Chocolate Or Chocolate Almond Bark, Melted (optional)

Preparation Instructions

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

In a bowl, toss the oats with the canola oil, melted butter and salt. Spread the mixture out on 2 baking sheets and toast in the oven for 15 to 20 minutes, shaking the pan twice and making sure they don’t burn. Remove from the oven and set aside.

Reduce the heat to 325 degrees F.

In a medium saucepan, combine the brown sugar, honey, apple juice and molasses. Heat the mixture slowly, stirring until all combined. Stir in the vanilla.

Toss together the toasted oats, rice cereal, wheat germ, pecans and almonds. Pour in the sugar mixture, stirring as you pour. Toss to combine; it will be sticky!

Press into 1 baking sheet (thoroughly greased with butter, or line pan with foil and grease foil) and bake until golden, about 20-25 minutes. Remove from oven and let cool. Cut pieces with a sharp knife and remove from the pan.

OPTIONAL

Dip the cooled granola bars straight into the melted chocolate so that the top is plain and the bottom is chocolate-covered. Set on parchment until set, sticking in the fridge to hasten this along if necessary. I obviously didn’t have time for this so I used the shortcut method.

George and gardening updates

I thought I would put some updated pictures of George up. He is growing so fast! Georgie already lost a lot of his baby teeth which I randomly find in the carpeting.

Okay! This new gardner is getting mad at these beetles they are eating all my new plants! Waaaahhh!!! I’ve heard a few times now that this techinque works here goes. I hate chemicals, so I filled an old washed out spray bottle with a few drops of Dawn soap and water. Shake it up and spray away! I sprayed my bushes that these bugs love then all of my pepper, tomato, and herbs. I will update the condition of the edible plants, but I found a few beetles on the bush and SOAKED them. They literally rolled over and died. Try it out and let me know how it works for you.
